India's Dominance at Home, Mixed Results Down Under in the 2023 Border Gavaskar Trophy
On February 9 in Nagpur, the most recent Border Gavaskar Trophy competition will get under way. Australia will try to win their first Test series in India since2004–05, while Team India will try to defend the title after a historic victory in Australia. The Border Gavaskar Trophy, established in 1996 and named for famous hitters Allan Border and Sunil Gavaskar, has had its share of glorious moments where history has been altered, records have been broken, and lives have been changed.
Team India has had mixed results in Australia, while dominating at home. India won just two Test matches from 1999–2000 (the inaugural overseas Border Gavaskar Series) and 2014–15: Adelaide in 2003 and Perth in 2008.
In Australia, India also lost two embarrassing games in the years 1999–2000 and 2011–12. The deterioration of India's batting "quartet"—Sehwag, Tendulkar, Dravid, and Laxman—was evident in the latter series. In the end, neither Dravid nor Laxman represented India in an international match.
Although Kohli made his debut as a captain-batter during the 2014–15 series, it is now more famous for Dhoni's sudden Test retirement. Both Kohli and Dhoni lost one Test and drew one, and India lost the series 2-0.
However, with Kohli at the helm, India made history in 2018–19 by becoming the first
BORDER GAVASKAR TROPHY 2023
Since they last won a series in India under Michael Clarke, way back in 2004, Australia's Test cricket records there haven't been terrific. Although they have triumphed in bilateral ODI and T20I series, they haven't had any luck in the purest form on Indian soil.
After taking a 1-0 lead after a huge 333-run victory in Pune in 2017, the Australians had a wonderful chance to win a Test series in India. India fought back, though, and took the series 2-1.
India currently holds the BGT after winning the four-match series 2-1 in the previous 2020–21 season. Even then, India turned things around after falling down early in the first Test at Adelaide Oval.
The Mastercard Australia tour to India for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will get underway in Nagpur on February 9. To compete in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the travel is to India. The towns of Delhi, Dharamsala, and Ahmedabad will host Team India's three Test matches.
